There were two near contemporaneous persons named Johann Friedrich Horn. One was a political philosopher and lawyer from Breig in Silesia (1629 \u2013 1665) who moved to Wittenberg and taught politics and philosophy there. This Johann Friedrich Horn is NOT<\/em> of the family described here. The other Johann Friedrich Horn (1628 \u2013 167?) is of the Horn family described on this website although where exactly he fits is not clear. His father was Peter Horn (1597-1650) and his mother was Anna Martha Krausold (1605 \u2013 1674). There are two other branches of the Horn family: the Nicolaus Horn branch<\/a> from which the Three Loeck Sisters are descended and the Caspar Horn branch.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1652 he married Sabine Margarethe, daughter of the pastor of Niederro\u00dfla Basilius G\u00fcpner (1607 – 1688) and they had at least one daughter, Maria Sabina (27.11.1654 to 23.10.1721).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur\u201d Johann Friedrich Horn\u2019s father Peter was a student of theology at Jena (1619 -1622\/23); and in 1626 he was a pastor in Sch\u00f6ten with Heusdorf and Nauendorf, and from 1626 to 1650 pastor in Oberro\u00dfla. He died as a \u201cresult of abuse\u201d in the Thirty Years’ War.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his role of pastor Peter Horn officiated at a number of funerals and weddings from which certain books were published including: Piorum ex hac vita Exodus est ad vitam Meliorem introitus, as ist Christliche Leich- und Trostpredigt\/Darinnen k\u00fcrtzlich erwiesen<\/em> in 1632.<\/p>\n\n\n

In 1646 Johann Friedrich contributed to Duplex Diadema Speciei \u2026<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

Johann Friedrich, like his father, was a theology student at Jena from where he graduated in 1647 and in 1650 he obtained his Masters after which he became a pastor in Oberro\u00dfla.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is evidence from the bibliographic record that JFH and his father in law Basilius G\u00fcpner where involved together in conducting various services as evidenced by the funeral book titled: Parturientis Officium, Et Praemium. Einer Geb\u00e4hrerin ihr Ambt\/ was sie thun soll\/ Und wie Ihr die\u00df von Gott <\/em>\u2026 1667.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because we have no direct evidence that JFH is of the Horn family found on this website, we have to had rely instead on more circumstantial evidence such as the extensive inter-marriages between the Horn and Schonlebe <\/a>families. Thus, we are not surprised to find JFH conducting a few Schonlebe wedding and funeral services. For instance, JFH conducted the wedding service when his sister Anna Catharina Horn (1622 – ) married Friedrich Schonlebe (1612 -1678) of Freybersdorff. Note that we have to distinguish this Anna Catharina Horn, the daughter of Peter Horn, from another Anna Catharina Horn, the daughter of Gabriel Horn who married Casper Ludwig Schonlebe (1604 \u2013 1672). A third Ann Catharina was born a Schonlebe and her mother Anna Catharina who was a Horn. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1672, Anna Catharina Schonlebe, the daughter of Friedrich and Anna Catharina (Horn) Sch\u00f6nlebe, married her cousin Jonas Sch\u00f6nlebe II of Lange-Rinne. The wedding was celebrated by the bride\u2019s uncle Johann Friedrich Horn and a book was published to mark the occaision: Hertzliche Gebl\u00fcths-Freude Und Inniglicher Gem\u00fcths-Wundsch \u2026<\/em> Another celebrant of the marriage was Caspar Horn [definitely one of “our” Horns] who published a single page broadsheet titled: Coronis Acclamationibus Iunoniis adnexa ad Nobilem Amplissimumq[ue] Dn. Sponsum Dn. Jonam Scho\u0308nlebium &c. Consobrinum Suum Dilectissimum<\/em> … <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Friedrich Schonlebe<\/a> died on 19th April 1678 and was buried on 29th of that month upon which occasion a funeral sermon was preached by Johann Friedrich Horn titled: Mitleidende Trauer-Zeilen Welche \u00fcber den h\u00f6chstbetr\u00fcbten doch seeligsten Hintritt Des \u2026 Herrn Friedrich Sch\u00f6nlebens uff Freybergs-Dorff Churfl. S\u00e4ch\u00df. wohlbestalten Zehendners \u2026<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

Johann Friedrich and Sabine Margarethe (G\u00fcpner) Horn\u2019s daughter Maria Sabina married Johann Weissenborn (1644 \u2013 1700). He was a Lutheran theologian who was born at Siglitz, in Thuringia, on 21st November, 1644. He studied at Jena, was appointed rector of the Evangelical Lutheran school at Smalcald in 1672, and in 1683 went to Hildesheim as director of the gymnasium there. In 1691 he received a call as pastor to Erfurt, was made doctor of divinity in 1692, and in 1700 followed a call as professor of theology and superintendent to Jena, where he died, 20th April of the same year. He is the author of: Schmalkaldisches kernhaftes Gebetbuch nebst allerhand geistreichen Lebensregeln.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Johann and Maria Sabina (Horn) Weissenborn had at least the following children: Jessias Friedrich (1673-1750), Johann, (1691-1761), and Johann Friedrich (1681-1760).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Maria Sabina died on 23rd October 1721, a funeral sermon was published: Programma In Exseqviis Maximarvm Virtvtvm Ac Lavdvm Matronae Mariae Sabinae Weissenborniae Natae Horniae P. P. In Academia Ienensi \u2026 <\/em>Another funeral book: Die seelige Vereinigung getrennter Hertzen Wollten, Als Die Hoch-Edle, Hoch-Ehr- und Tugendbelobte \u2026<\/em> tells us that she was buried on 9th November in the 67th year of her \u201cwell-managed life\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
