Among his siblings were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/struvefamily.org\/?page_id=802\">Juliane Struve (1621 \u2013 1679)<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/struvefamily.org\/?page_id=166\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"166\">Georg Adam Struve (1619 \u2013 1699)<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/struvefamily.org\/?page_id=217\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"217\">Anna Margaretha Struve (1624 \u2013 1679)<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/struvefamily.org\/?page_id=540\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"540\">Anna Maria Struve (1634 -1666)<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/struvefamily.org\/?page_id=802\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"802\">Julianne Struve (1621 \u2013 1679)<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On 12th April 1670 he married Agnes Barbara Fl\u00fcwerk (* 22 Sept 1652 at H\u00f6tensleben + 31 Mar 1688 at Magdeburg). Johann August died on 24th January 1704 at Magdeburg. Agnes Barbara was the daughter of Gottfried Fl\u00fcwerck. They had at least three sons:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>August Barthold Struve (1672 &#8211; 1688)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/struvefamily.org\/?page_id=632\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"632\">Johann Julius Struve<\/a> (1674-1752)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gebhard Adam Struve<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And one daughter Sophia Katharina \/ Catherine who married Georg Matthias Hanse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Johann August supervised the public examination of his nephew <a href=\"http:\/\/struvefamily.org\/?page_id=166\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"166\">Georg Adam Struve<\/a> under the title: <em>Georgii Adami Struvii, D.I.U. Prof. Publ. Exercitationem Feudalem Decimam Quintam De Amissione Feudi, Sub Eiusdem Praesiio Iterum publicae disquisitioni exponit &#8230; Johannes Augustus Struve. Ad d. XII. Iunii, Anno M.DC.LIIX. Iul. ..<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Johann August was a lawyer who held a high office in the Cathedral chapter of Magdeburg, and at the Collegiate church of St. Nicolai Syndicus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He initially studied at the Hessian High School, and afterwards he went to the university of Jena where he self-published an academic dissertation in 1658: <em>Specimen Iuridicum De Banno Seculari &amp; Ecclesiastico \u2026 <\/em>which included a dedication to Johann Krull (below right). Georgii Adami Struvii, D.I.U. Prof. Publ. And, <em>Exercitationem Feudalem Decimam Quintam De Amissione Feudi, Sub Eiusdem Praesiio Iterum publicae disquisitioni exponit &#8230; Johannes Augustus Struve. Ad d. XII. Iunii, Anno M. DC. LIIX. H.L.Q.C.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/struvefamily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Johann-August-Struve-Disputatio_Sexta_In_qua_continentur_Reso-Title-Page-820x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"277\" height=\"347\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He held various appointments at the royal court at Magdeburg and was secretary to the city council of Regensburg, and finally in 1681 the Magdeburg Cathedral Capital Syndicus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As such, his impact locally must have been quite large given the number of funeral sermons that were published on his death which occurred on 24<sup>th<\/sup> January 1704 at the age of sixty-seven. Some of the title pages of these are shown below. One in particular&nbsp;<em>Letzte Pflicht welche Dem Hoch-Edlen und Hochgelahrten Herrn Hr. Johann August Struven Hochverordneten \u2026&nbsp;<\/em>had contributions by his son Johann Julius and Gebhard Adam Struve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\"><div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure Kern-Spr\u00fcchlein Davids Psalm. LXIII, v. 4. &#8230; Bey &#8230; Leich-Bestattung Der &#8230; Frauen Agnesen Barbaren Struven <\/em>\u2026 &nbsp;which tells us that Agnes Barbara died on 12th April of the year 1688 year and was placed in her &#8220;resting room&#8221; (grave). When she was buried the body of her third son, Gottfried Christian Struve, was buried alongside her. GEBHARD ADAM STRUVE<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The second son of Johan August and Agnes Barbara (Fluwek) Struve and brother of Johann Julius, was Gebhard Adam who was appointed a councilor and commissioner at Magdeburg on January 25, 1712. Since the previous principal recipient of the duchy, Johann Ludwig Strautt, could not raise this amount, he resigned from the office. In his place, he proposed Gebhard Adam Struve, who, in addition to his own fortune, also that of his father-in-law, the war councilor Steinheuser, as a guarantee, offered a total of 30,000 thalers as his successor. The king had few objections so he made the Magdeburg clerk&#8217;s office liable for any failures, and he made Struve the chief recipient of all and every other ordinary and extra ordinary taxes that are written out from time to time. Struve was considered dutiful and that he would&nbsp;&nbsp;handle the income honestly and faithfully, with everything being correctly calculated and accounted for.
